Afternoon Experiences: Departure after lunch

• • Traditional boat trip through the rice fields: Glide along quiet canals surrounded by endless rice paddies while learning how waterways remain the heart of transportation and daily life in the Mekong Delta.
  • Visit a family-run goat farm; Meet local farmers, feed the goats if you’d like, and hear how small family farms provide sustainable livelihoods for generations.
  • Walk through the rice fields: Take a leisurely walk through the surrounding rice paddies and learn about Vietnam’s most important crop. Depending on the season, you may see farmers planting, harvesting, or drying rice using traditional methods.
  • Walk through a beautiful lotus pond: Stroll among blooming lotus flowers, learn about the cultural importance of Vietnam’s national flower, and discover how lotus seeds, stems, and leaves are used in local cuisine and traditional life.
  • Visit a traditional rice polishing factory: Discover what happens after the harvest as local workers transform freshly milled rice into the polished grains found on Vietnamese dining tables. Learn about the different stages of rice processing and the importance of rice production in the Mekong Delta.
  • Traditional rice liquor workshop: Visit a small family distillery where rice liquor has been handcrafted for decades. Learn about the fermentation and distillation process before tasting a small sample while chatting with the family.

Day 2 | Living Like a Local by Traditional Sampan (Starting around 8:00 AM)

After breakfast, step aboard a small wooden sampan and explore the quiet waterways that connect villages throughout the region.

• Local market visit: Wander through a lively countryside market where locals buy fresh vegetables, fish, herbs, and handmade products. Discover ingredients commonly used in Mekong cooking and experience everyday village life.
• Visit a peaceful Buddhist pagoda: Learn about local spiritual traditions while admiring the tranquil architecture and beautiful gardens that provide a place for reflection and community gatherings.
• Tropical fruit orchard: Walk through lush orchards filled with seasonal fruits such as rambutan, longan, mango, or pomelo depending on the season. Meet local growers and sample freshly picked fruit.
• Optional visit to a bat sanctuary: Visit a nearby bat habitat where thousands of fruit bats rest among the trees, offering a unique glimpse into the region’s biodiversity.
• Coconut broom-making at a local house: Meet skilled local artisans who transform coconut leaves into durable household brooms using techniques passed down through generations. Try weaving part of a broom yourself and discover how every part of the coconut tree is put to good use.
• Return for a delicious local lunch followed by time to relax.

Farm-to-Table Experience: Spend the afternoon living like a local family:

Day 3 | The Coconut Story & Farewell

(Starting around 9:00 AM)

• After breakfast, discover why the coconut tree is known as the “Tree of Life” in the Mekong Delta.

• Explore a coconut garden: Walk beneath towering coconut palms while learning how every part of the coconut tree—from roots and leaves to husks, shells, and fresh coconut water—plays an important role in local life, crafts, and cuisine.
• Harvest fresh coconuts: Pick coconuts with your hosts (season permitting), enjoy fresh coconut water straight from the fruit, and hear fascinating stories about the coconut culture of Southern Vietnam.
• Make fresh coconut jelly: Join your hosts in preparing a refreshing coconut jelly dessert using fresh coconut water and simple local ingredients: a sweet treat enjoyed by Mekong families.
• Relax at the homestay before enjoying a farewell lunch featuring more regional specialties.
• Say goodbye to your hosts and depart for Ho Chi Minh City in the afternoon, bringing home unforgettable memories of the Mekong Delta beyond the usual tourist routes.
